Accession number: 543iii
Date: before 1985
Description: A small fake egg. Fairly heavy and likely made of stone. Is an off-white colour.
History of Use: Used to get a hen to start sitting on a clutch of eggs. A hen lays approximately one egg a day. When a breeder wants their hen to hatch her eggs they will put setting eggs in the nest to convince the hen to sit on the nest. As the hen lays more eggs to add to the nest, the breeder will remove the fake setting eggs as they are replaced with fertile eggs.
